Dorothy Dyer is a former English teacher who taught at a range of South African high schools. Her passion for getting her students reading was the impetus for the establishment of FunDza Literacy Trust, which uses its online platform to disseminate exciting local content to readers around the country.
Dorothy edits and develops material for FunDza’s site as well as designing its educational programmes. She has written numerous English textbooks, as well as teen novels. She has a Masters from in Applied Language and Literacy Studies, and also a Masters in Creative Writing, both from UCT. Currently she is chairperson of the Western Cape branch of LITASA (the Literacy Association of South Africa).
