Biography

Mmabatho Maboya is the CEO of Cyril Ramaphosa Foundation. She joined the Foundation in 2015 as Strategy and Partnerships Executive, offering essential support to the office of the CEO. In this role she drove and managed processes for the Foundation to deliver on its vision and objectives and ensured that its strategic focus is responsive to South Africa’s development challenges.
Mmabatho is central to advocating and supporting the role of the Foundation’s entities and developing growth areas into impactful, sustainable programmes. She has also driven the Foundation’s participation in sector and industry-led platforms, in turn enabling her to direct the Foundation’s strategic alignment with multi-sector networks.

As a woman and a mother, Mmabatho has driven with passion the piloting of the Foundation’s Thari programme. A Setswana language term for the blanket that is used to cover and carry a child, the programme is aimed at addressing socio-economic challenges faced by women and children in the Foundation’s programme schools.
Mmabatho is deeply committed to improving the quality of education for disadvantaged children. She made good on her own aptitudes for academic and other achievement from an early age. She qualified to attend university at the age of 16, going on to attain a string of degrees: a BSc (Statistics and Geography) from the University of the Free State; BSc Honours (Geography) from the University of South Africa; and an MBA from the University of Pretoria’s Gordon Institute of Business Science. She is currently reading for a PhD with UNISA, focusing on the economic, social and environmental role of ultra-distance marathons in growing secondary cities in South Africa.

Mmabatho is also an experienced communications and stakeholder relations professional with strong capabilities to link research, strategy and technical expertise to reputation management. She served this as Stakeholder Relations Manager with the Shanduka Group prior to the Foundation. Before then she was an Intelligence Analyst, then Senior Advisor: Stakeholder Management, at Eskom Holdings. She began her senior management career in 2005 in local government.
