Riaan is currently Education Technology Manager for FEDSAS – Federation of South African School Governing Bodies. He has aB.ComptHonours degree in Accounting and after a stint in business and management got involved in education technology. Riaan is a regular speaker at national education technology events and has consulted with many schools on the sensible implementation of technology in the school environment.
He is co-author of Financial Mangement in Public School – A practical guide to legislative compliance (Juta).
He is also a member of the SGB of the school his children attend and also a member of the advisory board for EduTech SA. He has a passion for the education environment and is currently engaging with school governing bodies around the country consulting on the adoption and sensible implementation of technology in the school environment. He firmly believes that technology is a very helpful tool to enhance the learning and teaching process and environment but also advocates the responsible use and implementation thereof. Technology is a means to an end and not the goal. 21st century education is still being defined and developed and schools are at various levels of maturity in tech adoption. He believes that a simplistic approach to this complex issue needs to be developed and he further supports solutions that accommodate the unique nature of the diversified teaching environments in our country. One size does not fit all.
Riaan is also Chairperson of ED21 – a forum of like-minded industry players in the education technology space.He also serves as Chairperson of EDF – The Education Data Forum – a collective forum of service providers of Schools Administration Management Systems industry.
